Rock On, Rock Sat C and Rock Sat X are programs funded by
NASA and Colorado Space Grant.
The intent of these programs is to expose students and instructors to rockets, satellites and space systems, and to allow them to experience, first hand, what it’s like to work in a NASA Spaceport environment.
The Rock On Program involves several small teams of students. Each team builds their own rocket payload. Each payload has about a dozen sensors, a microprocessor, memory to store the data, etc.
Students are required to perform mechanical and electronic assembly, programming, testing, troubleshooting and data analysis.
Classes are held over the course of a week and can run as long as 12 hours per day.
Rock Sat C and Rock Sat X are considerably more complex than Rock On and normally take an entire year to complete. (Click here for more info)
This year’s Rock On session ran from June 21 thru June 26 and included a spectacular Terrier Orion Rocket launch on June 26th.
Below are some photos of the RockOn 2014 Session at Wallops Island and a link to the rocket launch video.
This site is under construction and detailed descriptions will be added soon.
